The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Island Recap

My name is Turk182 and this is Reality TV Guide, where we came to make everyone feel better about themselves. It’s not easy having to constantly pick bones with MTV all the time. Sure, their music video days were epic. And not all their television programs were terrible. However, there usually comes a point where I have to pick that bone with them, and this is one of those points. Because we have had so many reality shows rip off Survivor multiple times on every other network. MTV only had one Survivor copycat. And not only that, but it featured the nut sack of the barrel: Johnny Bananas.

Survivor had immunity challenges that tested both the body and the mind… You had Johnny Bananas mooning the camera. Survivor had blindsides and trick plays that shifted the course of the game… You had a Robin Face of the Week. Survivor had speeches with metaphors of snakes and rats… You had Dan drinking himself into so many embarrassing moments that we ended up praying for Dr. Drew to come over and knock some sense into him.

It’s definitely tough for us, because yeah, Johnny Bananas is not just a great competitor, he’s one of the greatest. And yet, he constantly takes a shit on what The Challenge stands for. Johnny can be a nice guy outside the show, he can be a funny guy, he can even play fair and win at the same time, and he’s even been on a few great seasons over the years. But why does he have to waste the likability of respected competitors, a cherished production establishment, and an interesting change in setup to the game in a season that had so much promise and so much hype to give us?

TJ: “You will do Rivals 3, Johnny Bananas!”

Johnny Bananas: “Come on, Teej! I puked out fish soup on the last one!”

I believe we owe it to the island spirits we have come to know to let it end in the way that Mother Nature intended: For the…

…You know what? Screw the snake! At least the rat didn’t vote out a girl with a broken hand on Free Agents!

This is not only one of the worst Challenge seasons ever produced, it’s one of the worst seasons to any reality show I’ve ever seen.
